¡Hola! I am glad to see you here!
About VamosAudioblog
VamosAudioblog was born with the idea to support and complement the learning process of Spanish students whose first language is not Spanish. As you probably know there are four main skills when we study a foreign language, which are listening, speaking, reading and writing. From my own experience and that of my students I can say that listening comprehension is for many the most difficult language skill and also the one to which is frequently given the least importance when teaching or learning Spanish, at least not in the most productive way.
Certainly the ability of each learner in each skill is different.
But why the listening comprehension skill is so important? Well, we just have to think about how we acquired our mother tongue when we were little. Obviously we had to listen and imitate again and again and for years before we could get to a sophisticated mastery of language. In fact if you get to analyze the grammatical rules of your own language I’m sure you’ll be surprised at how many you ignore. That´s normal! You have never learned to speak your mother tongue by thinking about how these rules apply. When you want to say something you are not thinking about how language works, you simply say what you want and that´s all.
By saying this I do not mean that studying grammar, speaking, writing and reading is not important because of course it is! However I share the idea, along with many scholars, that diving into the sounds of the language you want to learn, as often as possible, paying attention to the pronunciation of the words, reinforces your learning and accelerates it. This offers you not only the possibility to imitate those sounds, but also the chance to get used to recognize and relate syntactic structures which will also improve your speaking skills.
I have good news for you!
Spanish is a phonetic language with simple and clear rules of pronunciation and spelling. There are not lots of exceptions as in other languages. This makes easier for you to start reading once you know these simple rules. In addition, reading and writing are closely related processes where one supports the other. If you are able to read a word correctly this is because you know the sound of each letter that makes it up, which means you could also write it more easily.
You will improve your reading and writing abilities without realizing it.
